Very rarely do we allow ourselves to just be who we are. So many roles to play, so many expectations to live up to, all those duties and little chores, the niceties, the politnesses owed, the regular humdrum of life. Apart from the bread and butter jobs, most of us have to do in order to support ourselves, there is also what nowadays is called entertainment: the hours spent in front of rectangular screens of various sizes, being washed over with information that one often not even asked for and which in most cases is of no relevance what so ever. Not to forget what one owes the physical body, sports of every form, kind and technique. With equipment that has brought out the highest sophistication in human imagination possible, such is the vast variety and expertise in almost any field of sports. One can not even walk anymore today without the proper gear, if it is to be considered sportive. And sportive one must be, no question about it. One has to keep fit, don’t ask me why. To live longer and have more of the irrelevant lifes we already lead, maybe?
I got to think about all this because I recently enjoyed a couple of hours having the feeling of being totally myself. Without any of the above mentioned crap. It is good to discover once more that treasures like good company, relaxed conversation and comfortable silences do exist. I am very grateful for the privilege to know fellow humans who provide me with that much breathing space and allow for such latitude.
Be yourself, Morcheeba
