Contemplating the term “oozing” and its connotations, I happened upon some videos of amoebe moving. And promptly learned something about the way this creatures move. The direction amoebe move to is called “leading edge”. Great term, I think. That is exactly what I need, a leading edge. Amoebe form some kind of extremities or sticky spots to cling on, then thighten the trailing end of their form via some contraction or pressure difference thus oozing towards the leading edge. And it looks absolutely beautiful as they seem to float about without any purpose, sense or direction. Of course, with amoebe it is as with all living things: their to and fro stipulated by something they want. Amoebe lunch by smothering their prey with themselves, oozing atop their victims, starting to extract their feed directly out of them. The regular, constant cruelty of life going on unnoticed all around us. Elegantly performed, soothing to watch.
