I think I feel at home for the first time in the particular part of Berlin I live in since four years now. Found a place I fell in love with. A corner pub serving all my immediate needs. Smoking, single malts, moderate pricing, friendly service, nice guests, open late even on weekday nights. Funny, I never felt at home in my neck of the woods ever since I decided to move away from my place in the fancy KU-Damm area four years ago. Being a dedicated Charlottenburger, I never ventured far away but to me it felt like landing on mars behind Schloss Charlottenburg. It took four years untill I finally arrived. Remember, I told you I had a nasty discussion with a friend in a corner pub one and a half weeks ago? This was my first visit to that place. Just because it was the only place close to my flat still open at two in the morning. Last night I was kind of stood up by my dinner date, since my friend had already eaten and was too exhausted to keep me company for very long. He watched me eat then soon took off to get some sleep. As I was in a going out mood and quite disappointed to be left alone, I decided to go look if I could get at least a night cup at that pub. Turned out just great. Not only did I get my drink and a few to follow, but the owner, a Serb by the name of Mike, played Ween to start with, the other guests were decent and fun to chat with and in the end I got a video screen show of David Bowie in his early years along with complimentary single malts from the bar for trivia knowledge about Mr. D. R. Jones. Finally, I found my living room around the corner, I guess. A place where a single woman can entertain herself unthreatened and with good company, music and drinks. First time I think it would be a shame having to move again.
