Well, everybody wants a box of chocolates. And I got one. The concert was really impressive. Leonard Cohen is still delivering. All in all: a full evening of that voice can get a tad monotonous. And in the monastery he kind of got into the blessing habit. But it also might just be old age, getting buildt closer to water as the years go by. Kind of takes something off the edge of teasing and playing with fire. But something did get across very clearly: he is a master of wording, timing and singing. And also a master of picking very good musicians to perform with. I loved it. Especially his comment toward the end of the gig: I still work for your smile. And my smile he got. Actually, I smiled on and on. As after the concert my bunch of friends and I went to a nice beer garden in Kreuzberg, having a great time. And Friday I had a day off, full of utter bliss. I indeed feel, as if I had been on vacation. I still do, in fact, even after having been back at the office today.
As for Mr. Cohen: I hope I can be as agile and giving if and when I reach his age. As a closing comment on Cohen week, I’ll post you one of his songs I first heard in the movie “Pump up the volume” (great soundtrack, overall):
Everybody knows, Leonard Cohen
By the way: if I can still get a ticket, I’ll be seeing Marianne Faithful on July 25th in Berlin. Will keep you posted.
