Her voice is her voice is her voice. But the bitter truth remains: there wasn’nt enough left over to let the spark fly. What a difference in comparison to Mr. Leonard Cohen. And I do not, by all means, want to be disrespectful. Maybe lifes takes a harder toll on women. And maybe women are more consequent with – in return – retreating and being more careful with gifts. And maybe she was just tired and showing the signs of time. However, Marianne Faithful, still with a voice to melt to, never managed to sweep me off my feet. Still glad I went to see her.

how right you are. all that can be said about that particular kind of people: they’ll be as dead as the rest, in the end. but maybe they’ll have a little something ahead of everyone else as long as they manage to stay alive.

both: I love to have had the opportunity to see her and listen to her outstanding voice in person. and i cherished that experience. at the same time i was taken aback by the obvious signs of age, the tiredness and everything one doesn’t want to see on stage when expecting something great. a tired granny she was, really. it didn’t go along all that well with the words she sang. good for her, that she performed in front of an audience not that much in command of the english language (well, most of them).
