Meet another one of my personal favourites this Sunday: Albin Egger-Lienz. Whenever possible I go and look at his impressive paintings. Simple, yet powerful. Telling the story of the hardship of alpine life, of war, of rural life. Also of the predominance of rites and religion in private and village life. Pain, oppression, sorrow, beauty, grandezza, love and care, protest, all of it right there, captured on canvas. Speaking with an intensity to me that has yet to be matched. I can not begin to fathom what kind of man this artist must have been.

Sehr gerne. Einer meiner Lieblinge der Moderne.

Most certainly. Born and bred in Tirol. So I guess this is where his view of the world stems from. But the way he looks at it – considering the time in which he worked – and what he makes of it, is outstandeing, I believe. I wish you could see his colours on the originals. UNBELIEVABLE.

Fascinating paintings especially the one on the top.
Very. Beautiful bright colors. Its relaxing to look at it.
Certainly he had a deep sense of rural life.
Was he of a rural background?
