I was wrong about “Orange is the new Black”

POTUS45. The guy is intolerable, in my humble opinion. As a person. The more so as leader of the US of A. And with this what once was called the free world. And yet – millions of US citizens seem to approve of him.

Over time I fell into a rigour about this POTUS45 situation. I kept telling myself, that winding oneself up over this won’t help. That the Americans will correct this horrible error at the next possible opportunity. Wrongly so.

Loosely following the impeachment motions without any real hope for them to succeed, my frustration started to bubble up once more. On top, I received an e-mail from an American acquaintance recently, trying to explain to me, how  misled I am about Trump by leftwing media, how great he really is and how great he has made America again. The mail was a reaction to this passage in my latest New Year letter:

I can’t help feeling rather numbed by the end of this year.

A certain Trump and his bonsai version in Britain (formerly known as Great Britain) play a big role in this, I have to confess. But since I decided to write, I better not let myself be dragged into that gaping abyss.

When receiving this long e-mail, I started to a.) update my mailing list and b.) plan a post about the constant impertinence of POTUS45.

The plan became more tangible, looking at the crowd during the campaign speeches he gave recently. It gives me the shivers, really. And – watching the forseeable outcome of the impeachment trial – it took one more thing to make up my mind: his snide comments upon getting away with everything. Of course followed by sacking staff once again for not producing preferred opinions. His bragging SOTU.

But I am wrongly informed, misled? My ass I am. Just looking and listening is enough to form my own opinion on this orange person. My plan was, to title my umteenth rant on this sorry topic “Orange is the new Black”.

Luckily, I reconsidered. Calling POTUS45 orange is an insult to a certain fruit and a certain hue.

I remembered, how Mr. Obama was also under attack during his term, his birth certificate was demanded, his integrity questioned. But as far as I can remember, he never lowered himself to the wack level of his opponents. So, using orange and black in the same sentence on a piece about the American presidency all of a sudden forbade itself quite naturally.

I am still going to post a few cartoons of POTUS45, all found on the www. Because humour – once again – seems the only saviour left these days. And these artworks explain much better than any words ever could, how I feel.

  1. I have to give credit to Mitt Romney at this juncture. He did stand up for his values!
And to put you at ease: you dont’t know this e-mail writer(ess). She is the former partner of one of sweethearts friends, I got to know in Florida.

  2. I’m racking my brain about who this American acquaintance of yours might be – is it anyone I know? I don’t have a single Twump voter among my family or friends. Have never had to go toe to toe with one. Weird.
I have to say you were very prescient – right after the election you wrote something about how the stealthy process of normalization would now begin. I didn’t think it possible at the time . . . but . . . here we are. A bunch of elected Congressmen sitting in the audience, hooting hooligan style, guffawing at the Occupants juvenile insults at his enemies, speaking words only a true sycophant could utter without shame, rationalizing all his illegal and immoral acts – and all that in front of rolling cameras. Enablers all of them. It disgusts me.
