This weekend is the first leg of the yearly held three bridge league weekends. I had trouble putting a team together, although I have six players on my team, only four of which are required to play at any given day of the event. But due to travel plans, family festivities and job obligations it was hard to get the needed four players together for the first weekend. So, this time, everyone has to play with partners they haven’t played with before. Despite that (or because of it, who knows) we did quite well yesterday. Winning the first fight solid. But I fluked the first half of the second one. Making a stupid mistake, I had to call the tournament director against myself, thus downing an already won contract, losing 200 instead of winning 600. That alone is about 14 imps (imp = international match points). Being furious with myself, in the following hand, I made a very risky decision. Some other time it might have won back what I had just lost, but not yesterday. So, another 12 or so imps were out of the window. Today, in the second half of this fight, my team will have to make up for the set-back I caused. I can’t play today, as we are officially opening our clubhouse at work. Again, this is my fault. Got the dates confused, when setting the date of the opening reception. As per tradition the bridge league has been played on the last weekends of January, February and March every year in the past, I set the date for reception last autumn for today, without even as much as checking the league dates. Which shifted for reasons unknown to me. And I can’t well have roughly 200 guests at this reception and not host it, can I? Bridge league weekend or not. Agghhh, bozo me!

“Gut Blatt”
