Thinking about writing, I remember the last time I had to amass a considerable amount of words on paper. 50 odd pages on an exam paper for my senior golf manager course. I remember starting out with just putting everything down as I would normally say it. Taking advice from my sweetheart, I transformed the entire thing into something more academical. Just to be again advised – this time by my Professor – to consider the way, things are conveyed in academic papers. I browsed through many samples, (boring!), just to see, what he was speaking of, exactly. I did adapt the paper once more, but in the end refused to let go of my style completely. Weird, that one has to obscure what one wants to say, and refrain from humour altogether, in order to make it appear “academic”. Or else, maybe I am just not in command of precise, scholarly language…
