After a September full of sunshine and summer-like weather, October turned the table. It has been gray and cold and wet. All of the time. I have seldom felt so apruptly overtaken by the dark season than this year.
Even the trees didn’t get a chance to colour their leaves properly. They drop green leaves all over the place, hastily withdrawing the chorophyll now from the fringes.
After almost two weeks of constant low light levels, I get annoyed. I will defy outside conditions and get to gardening today. As today is my day off and I can’t spend another day inside. I need fresh air. Even if it is dripping wet and cold.
I can relate. What gets to me during winter is not the cold but the short days, especially when it’s overcast for weeks at a time. It’s enough to make anyone grumpy.
