frosty saints

This year, old farmer knowledge about Ice Saints and weather correlated in perfection. Just as the namedays of catholic saints Mamertus, Pankratius, Servatius, Bonifazius and the “cold” Sophia arrived in the calendar  from May 11th to May 15th, temperatures in Berlin fell from a very warm 24°C plus to coolish 8°C during days. The night always around 0°C, threatening with frost. Cold air rushing in from the Nort Pole toward the south of Europe, destroying spring’s good deeds in a swoosh. Starting off with lots of moisture and cold winds. Good thing is, the drops make nice photographs.

We have to protect our tomato plants, veggies and salads from the cold overnight. What with the salads ready to consume, some were saved from the cold straight in our stomachs 🙂

  1. We have rain today and you’re right, the droplets on the leaves and flowers are amazing. Hubby and I got caught in a light shower while walking the dogs. Your lettuce looks great, I would have wasted no time making a salad. 🙂
